Tuning up a car is a skill that every person should have. It is a cheap and effective way to maintain your automobile and have it last a long time. Here are a few tips on how to tune up a car.

The first thing to do is to replace the fuel filter. If you have a fuel injected car, however, you don’t need to clean this too frequently. If the injectors are clogged, it is important to clean them.

You should also regularly swap out the spark plugs for new ones. Also, take a look at your spark plug wires and replace them if they are worn out. It is worth spending the extra money for good quality plugs and wires.

If you have a car from the late 70’s or earlier, you should also change out the points and condenser. Your points should be changed at least every six months or so. When this happens you should also check your ignition timing.

Even if you don’t have an older car, you should check your ignition timing when you tune up your car. If your car is a newer model, however, you may not be able to do this.

Make sure to check your belts as well. There is nothing more annoying than a squeaky belt, and when you are doing your tune up that is the time to replace them.
